Fitter-Welder lays out, fits, and welds fabricated, cast, and forged components to assemble structural forms such as frames, tanks, fenders, etc. according to blueprints and knowledge of welding and metallurgy: Selects equipment and plans layout, assembly, and welding, applying knowledge of geometry, physical properties of metal machining weld shrinkage, and welding techniques. Lays out, positions, aligns, and fits components together. Bolts, clamps, and tack-welds parts to secure in position for welding.

Responsibilities:

Maintaining safety standards by following OSHA regulations and company policies
Reading blueprints, sketches, diagrams, or other drawings to determine work requirements
Cutting and positioning materials needed for welding projects, using a torch or other tools
Inspecting welds for quality and defects, using tools such as microscopes
Inspecting equipment for damage or defects, replacing parts as needed to maintain efficiency
Reading and interpreting codes, symbols, and schematics to determine proper setup and procedures
Installing and repairing welding equipment, such as torches and wire feeders, to ensure proper operation
Operating welding equipment to weld or cut metal components or materials
Following safety guidelines and procedures while working with hazardous materials
Any other job assigned by Supervisor

Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent
Ability to lift up to 50lbs
Welding Certificate or equivalent training
Ability to do simple calculations (add or subtract) of dimensions to determine that parts being welded conform to blueprints
Understand welding symbols to determine type of weld and use of fillet gauges to determine the weld meets the print specifications
Experience with use of flex core welding wire
Knowing how to properly set the voltage and feed speed for the type of welding wire being used and checking the ground lead to be sure that it is properly attached to the object being welded
